In August 2022, Amazon expressed its intention to acquire iRobot - with the intention of completing the expertise in the portfolio of robotic products in home cleaning. However, now almost two years later, Amazon chose to cancel the iRobot acquisition.
This cancellation was done by Amazon after seeing that the European Union would not give permission for the takeover.
In line with this, iRobot stated that it will lay off around 350 employees of the company, including the CEO who will leave the company.
Amazon is also disappointed because this takeover cannot continue to help iRobot compete actively in the industry, especially competitors from foreign countries (China).
