Apple Cars May Be Delayed To 2028 With Only Level 2+ Self-driving

Project Titan is Apple's initiative to launch their first self-driving electric car. Although it has been in the works for 10 years, Apple has yet to launch this vehicle after joint ventures with Kia and Hyundai hit a dead end a few years ago and Sir Jony Ive, who was involved in the design, left the company.

According to a Bloomberg report, this project is increasingly problematic with the launch being delayed to 2028 compared to the original target believed to be 2025.

Among the most important issues is the Level 4 self-driving target that does not require any human intervention. The target has now been downgraded to Level 2+ which is comparable to some self-driving vehicles on the road today. Self-driving technology is not developing as rapidly as expected. Mercedes was the only company to offer Level 3 self-driving on their EQS series last year.

The development of Apple's self-driving EV was very problematic with many employees being fired in 2019 and the project restarted in 2016. There was also a scandal when former employees stole the developed technology.

Obviously the automotive world is more difficult for Apple than the products that have been launched before. It is very different from Xiaomi who managed to launch their first EV in just four years after the announcement was made.
