Have you heard the name HomeOS? It is a prototype operating system by Microsoft Research to control internet of things devices in the home. This system never became a reality, but the name HomeOS still exists today. Most recently, homeOS has been used by Apple in the tvOS 17.4 development code.
This is not the first time Apple has used homeOS. In 2021 Apple is looking for new employees related to the development of this operating system. But after being discovered by many journalists, the word homeOS was removed. Now after 3 years, homeOS has resurfaced suggesting Apple still wants to make it a reality.
According to sources, homeOS may be a combination of tvOS and the HomePod operating system which is also built on the tvOS platform. homeOS will be the main operating system for internet of things devices in the home. Among the products that may use it is HomePod with a screen to compete with Google Nest Hub or Amazon Echo.
