What was predicted finally came true. Apple is the world's largest smartphone manufacturer in 2023 after successfully overtaking Samsung who has held this status since 2011. According to data reported by IDC, Apple produced 234.6 million iPhones in 2023 which is equivalent to a 20.1% market share.
Samsung is second with 19.4% followed by Xiaomi (12.5%), Oppo (8.8%) and Transsion (8.15). The remaining 31% of the market is held by other companies. Apple overtakes Samsung with iPhone production up 3.7% over 2022.
Samsung was the worst hit with a 13.6% drop followed by Oppo (9.9%). Only Apple does not experience a reduction in production in 2023 due to the effects of the pandemic that can still be felt.
Interesting here is the rise of Transsion which is the parent company of the Itel, Tecno, and Infinix brands that managed to sneak in to replace Vivo. Last year Samsung was in first place followed by Apple, Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo. Apple in 2022 is only 3% behind Samsung.
