Apple's VP of Hardware Engineering Moves to Rivian

Apple lost another key executive to a competitor. According to Bloomberg, DJ Novotney who holds the position of Vice President of Hardware Engineering at Apple will migrate to Rivian. He has worked at Apple for the past 25 years and was involved in the development of the iPhone, iPad, AirPods, MacBook and Project Titan which is Cupertino's effort to develop the first electric car.

His move happened a few weeks after news appeared that Project Titan would be delayed to 2028, even though the project had been started since 2014. Apple's plan to produce an electric car with a self-driving system faced various obstacles such as self-driving technology not being mature enough, losing industry partners and company secrets being stolen by ex staff.

Various technology companies are now aware that the automotive world is not as easy as it seems. Huawei and Xiaomi partnered with existing automotive companies to realize their first vehicles in just four years. Apple ended its partnership with Kia Hyundai after their secrets were revealed a few years ago.
