Daihatsu Halts Car Production In Japan For Falsifying Crash Test Data

Daihatsu took the sudden step of stopping the production of all their vehicles in Japan. The action was taken after the company was found to have falsified breach test data over the past 30 years. All four Daihatsu car production plants will be closed at least until the end of January 2024.

An investigation has been initiated by the Japanese Ministry of Transport on Daihatsu because this scandal also involves their vehicles sold in Malaysia and Indonesia. It is not yet known if the production of Daihatsu vehicles in Malaysia will also be stopped for safety reasons because the Malaysian Ministry of Transport has not given any statement on this issue.

This case is serious because the violation test data fraud involves more than 88,000 vehicles so far. Not only Daihatsu cars are affected but also Mazda, Subaru and Toyota vehicles that are under the big umbrella of the Toyota Group.
