Disney Has Created "Holo Tile" - Self-Moving Floor Tiles Like Treadmills

Disney is not just famous for princess characters, movies, animation and theme parks. They are also inventors who have created various new technologies, strange gadgets such as stunt robots, realistic robots, real Lightsabers, and many more. Most recently, they shared that the Holo Tile has been successfully created.

What is a Holo Tile? If you've ever seen a VR player use a special treadmill to move locally but in multiple directions, Holo Tile is a version of floor tiles. This tile can ensure that people are always on it by moving locally. Interestingly, unlike the treadmill used by VR players – Holo Tile supports multiple people moving in multiple directions simultaneously.

According to a representative of Disney Research, Holo Tile is still not sure what it will be used for in the real world. According to them, it could possibly be placed in a VR venue or on a stage for a unique dance performance. As usual, technology like this will be exclusive to Disney first and is expected to be used at Disneyland one day.

What I see with this weird tile is, Disney could recreate the Holodeck from Star Trek. Holo Tile in a special room, combine it with immersive mixed reality technology like Sphere or The Volume technology, put stunt robots and hologram beams – if this becomes a reality I'm willing to spend my savings to go to Disneyland.
