Eidos Cancels New Deus Ex Game And Fires Employees

January isn't over yet and the trend of video game development companies shedding jobs is now spreading to the Eidos Montreal studio. The studio under the umbrella of the Embracer Group announced that 97 staff will be laid off as part of the company's post-pandemic restructuring.

It will involve staff from the development, management and support services teams. Also announced is the cancellation of the new Deus Ex game which is believed to have been in development for the past two years. Eidos is the studio that produced the Deus Ex: Mankind Divided game from 2016. The canceled game has never been announced and was supposed to be the tenth in a series that has been around since 2000 under the studio's original developer Ion Storm.

Embracer Group experienced financial problems last year after the company failed to sell to Saudi Arabian investors. As a result Volition and Campfire Cabal studios were closed last year.
