Through the HarmonyOS NEXT operating system, Huawei will develop a real operating system that is no longer dependent on Android as in previous versions of HarmonyOS. To encourage users to move to the HarmonyOS NEXT platform, as many as 5000 native applications will be developed for it by the end of 2024.
Huawei is actively collaborating with more than 100,000 developers as well as various educational institutions and businesses in an effort to offer 500,000 native HarmonyOS applications in the near future. Since its launch in 2019, HarmonyOS has undergone various iterations with its own interface design.
In Malaysia, Huawei devices still use EMUI because there are many HarmonyOS features that can only be used in China. It is unknown at this time if HarmonyOS without Android support will be offered to markets outside of China. This is Huawei's serious effort to become fully independent without using external technology after being included in the entity list.
