Instagram's Messaging System May Be Integrated Into Threads

For Threads to be a true X competitor, they need to offer a messaging service for users to stay loyal. Adam Mosseri once shared that they are in a dilemma if they want to offer a messaging system. First, if you integrate the Instagram DM system into Threads, users will receive the same notification from the two applications. Secondly, if you develop a new messaging system, it will become messy.

Most recently, the Threads application for Android is seen to have started to have development code for the messaging system. Mosseri may have given up because this code suggests the messaging system on Threads is just the same system on Instagram. Also making this messaging development more difficult is the ActivityPub protocol support.

ActivityPub is a protocol that allows content on one social media application to be displayed on another application. For example, sharing on Threads can be viewed on Mastodon. The DM system does not support this protocol. Anyway, the DM feature on Threads is currently in the early stages of development and it's uncertain when it will be offered to the public.
