Meta Wants To Develop Open Source Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) For All

Artificial intelligence (AI) has not only been achieved but is widely used in the world in the last two years. Samsung has just launched the first AI smartphone with features that were once considered science fiction. Because AI is already considered normal, the next challenge is to develop artificial general intelligence (AGI) with capabilities beyond humans.

Mark Zuckerberg has announced in a video on Threads that Meta wants to build an open-source AGI to benefit everyone. According to Zuckerberg, this is because the products that Meta wants to develop in the future require good AGI capabilities. It needs to have the ability to understand, think and receive instructions from the user at a higher level than what exists now.

The first step to produce AGI is intensifying collaboration between the Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) team and the team developing generative AI at Meta. Also announced is the Llama 3 model being trained in Meta.

By the end of 2024, Meta will have around 350,000 NVIDIA H100 chips that AI developers around the world are now chasing. In total Meta will have the processing power equivalent to 600,000 H100 if all their computing power is combined.

Zuckerberg still believes there is a future for the metacity if it is developed with AI. He also feels that the use of smart glasses will increase with the help of AI. Any questions can be asked directly to glasses like the Ray-Ban X Meta that can understand what is seen through the camera.

The first class of AGI, which is emerging, has already been achieved through ChatGPT and Bard knows about it. A higher level of AGI that is competent, expert, virtuoso and superhuman is the target in a few years from now.
