NVIDIA RTX Remix Open Beta Lets Old Video Games Treated With Modern Visuals

Last week The Last of Us 2 Remastered was released for PS5 and it was derided by the community for not having a graphical upgrade over the PS4 version. Some say the "remastered" label used is a lie. With video games having been around for over 50 years, there must be thousands of old video games that fans want to rework. Yesterday NVIDIA announced open testing for its RTX Remix software that allows old games to be reworked with modern visuals.

RTX Remix puts the power in the hands of the "modding" community to transform old video games by adding modern features such as raytracing, bump mapping, high-resolution textures and a more realistic lighting system. Assets in older games can be replaced with assets with a higher polygon count. Using AI, realistic textures that reflect light correctly can also be generated yourself.

In a video shared by NVIDIA, the games Half Life 2 and The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, are given a modern graphical touch that was impossible to offer when the games were launched more than 20 years ago. For those who want to try RTX Remix for themselves, it can be downloaded via the link below.
