OpenAI Artificial Intelligence Technology Can Now Be Used For Military And War Purposes

OpenAI, the pioneer of artificial intelligence technology known for its ChatGPT artificial intelligence software that is leveraged by other big tech companies like Microsoft has recently updated their terms and conditions to expand the use of the technology.

According to some reports, OpenAI has recently updated the terms and conditions to allow their artificial intelligence technology to be used for military and even war purposes.

Previously, OpenAI's terms stated that their technology could not be used for that purpose, and to develop any type of weapon or any service that could be used to cause harm to the public.

This latest update shows the removal of the ban on use for military and war purposes, but the ban on building weapons and services that harm the public is still maintained.

This may not be surprising especially when many militaries in several countries have already begun to take advantage of the use of artificial intelligence to develop surveillance technology.

OpenAI has released a statement on the matter, and says that the update is to develop a set of principles that can be followed by all parties who want to develop their own artificial intelligence technology using GPT.

Although this technology can be used by the military now, OpenAI still prohibits their artificial intelligence technology from being used to build weapons, and this will reportedly be strictly controlled by them.

Military contracts, especially for the United States military are huge money pits, with giant companies like Microsoft also having contracts with the Department of Defense. Whether this is the beginning of OpenAI entering the military industry is not yet known, but this policy change is seen to allow them to secure new very lucrative contracts.
