Oppo Pad Neo Review – Impressive Audio, Disappointing Performance

The Oppo Pad Neo arrived in Malaysia recently together with the Oppo Reno 11 series of smartphones. All the latest devices released by Oppo this time certainly come with guaranteed specifications and performance that have been improved from previous releases including their tablet-type devices. Therefore, in this review article, I will share my experience of using it.

SCREEN

The screen size is 11.4″ which is sufficient for various uses on a tablet. The ReadFit screen with a 7:5 ratio also has a refresh rate that can reach up to 90Hz with an IPS LCD panel that can still detect finger touches on the screen well. The feature makes the display of the device still smooth in the use of most applications. The Neo pad also does not come with a stylus and only supports finger touch on the screen.

What is interesting about the Pad Neo screen is that the screen comes with an amazing 2.4K resolution that guarantees a clear display and an exciting viewing experience. Then, the ReadFit feature with a 7:5 ratio on this Pad Neo is said by Oppo to be able to protect the eyes with a low blue light feature to ensure eye comfort.

Not only that, there is also a smart color temperature adjustment feature on the device that acts as a screen color temperature sensor, especially in sleep mode and according to environmental conditions. It can simultaneously provide a more comfortable use experience for the eyes and a good night's sleep.

According to Oppo, the Pad Neo's screen is also flicker-free and I can confirm that this is not just a sweet promise. I feel the comfort feature on the eyes is one of the important things that Oppo wants to emphasize on this tablet.

DESIGN

Looking at the body design of the Oppo Pad Neo, all I could say when I first saw it was excitement because it was thin. Although thin it is quite heavy over 500 grams. An iPad Pro 11 and iPad Air are lighter than the Pad Neo. For those who hold the tablet to watch videos, the weight of the tablet can weigh on the hand after using it for a long time.

The back of the Oppo Pad Neo consists of a metal panel that matches the strip at the top around the camera lens. The combination of the two types of construction makes this tablet look shiny with a Space Gray color combination that gives an elegant and stylish effect.

Not only that, the device also feels very sturdy. I tried pressing a few times on the back of the device and tried to bend it but it didn't bend at all. The back panel is also a bit rough which makes this tablet feel less slippery making me more confident to use it even with just one hand. There is also an outer frame for the tablet but it needs to be purchased separately for better body protection.

On the top there is a power button and a slot for SIM and memory cards along with two audio speakers. Then the volume adjustment button is placed on the right side of the device and the USB-C charging hole at the bottom is also flanked by an audio speaker hole and also Dolby Atmos branding. On the front, there is a small hole at the top of the screen for the front camera. In my opinion, the overall design of the device is less attractive but quite durable.

USE AND SOFTWARE

Oppo Pad Neo uses the ColorOs operating system based on Android 13. One of the special features found on this tablet is a three-finger downward movement to take a screenshot and also two fingers moved from top to bottom to launch 'Split View' mode. Not only that, Floating Window mode is also available which allows 3 applications to be displayed and run simultaneously, but it can only be done in landscape view and then can be changed back to portrait view.

In terms of performance, I faced some lag issues that I can say were quite noticeable when I used this tablet to edit a simple TikTok video on the Capcut app. The process of editing a 1-minute long video is a bit disappointing because of the significant time lag problem while the editing process is being done.

The experience of playing the game on the device is not too disappointing, coupled with a large screen display that makes the game's graphics more visible than on a smartphone. However, the satisfaction of playing the first game at a medium resolution is satisfactory, but with high resolution settings there are errors in terms of time lag.

My other daily use apps did not experience any performance issues during the review period. The applications I want can be downloaded from the Play Store and can run smoothly without any problems. There is also the feature of adding virtual memory up to 8GB of RAM with the option of 4GB, 6GB and 8GB.

BENCH MARK

Scores for benchmark tests using Geekbench 6, 3DMark Wildlife and AnTuTu 3D are also included here. Through the test results shown, it can be clearly seen that the MediaTek Helio G99 chip is not the best chip for a tablet in the current market. Despite this, all popular applications can be downloaded without any problems and the user experience is also at a satisfactory level. But as I have commented, the ability to run editing applications like Capcut is a little disappointing.

I compared this Oppo Pad Neo with Realme Pad 2 and Tecno Pova 5 4G because all three devices use the same type of MediaTek Helio G99 processor chip.

Antutu 3D Benchmark

Oppo Pad Neo – 395,231

Realme Pad 2 – N/A

Tecno Pova 5 4G – 406,217

Geekbench6

Oppo Pad Neo – 640/1816

Realme Pad 2 – 723/1967

Tecno Pova 5 4G – 737/2005

WildLife Extreme

Oppo Pad Neo – 1330

Realme Pad 2 – 1354

Tecno Pova 5 4G – 1263

TELEPHONY

Oppo Pad Neo only supports 4G network in Malaysia with satisfactory internet speed throughout the period of use. No problems with easy network disconnection or unstable internet connection.

CAMERA

The rear and front cameras of this device come with 8MP sensors which make the results of the photos less satisfactory. Photos taken in bright lighting conditions are still not sharp with slightly faded colors. Similarly, the night mode pictures are more disappointing because the result is dark with quite significant noise problems.

As for the selfie camera, it is at the level of just complementing the basic features of a tablet camera. What is certain is that good lighting is essential for satisfactory photo results. This is because, in dark lighting, the picture results are disappointing. But in my opinion, the shortcomings in the quality of this tablet's camera are not something that should be emphasized too much, it is enough if it can take pictures with good clarity without needing too high a camera quality.

This is because it reverts to the normal use of a tablet which is usually used only as a second device for the purpose of studying and doing light work with a larger preparation than a smartphone.

BATTERY

Then moving on to its battery which comes with a capacity of 8000mAh with 33W SUPERVOOC wired fast charging support included in the box. The battery capacity of the device is big enough to last all day plus it is the battery capacity of a tablet. Normally in daily use, the 8000mAh battery for a tablet is very sufficient. Even I have watched videos on the tablet for more than 2 hours continuously and the battery percentage can still last a long time.

AUDIO

This Oppo tablet is also supplied with four speakers whose audio system supports Dolby Atmos, while producing clear audio sound. In simple terms, the audio system on the device does not disappoint. The experience of listening to music on the device is very enjoyable even though I am not wearing wireless earphones. Listening to music and watching movies with audio played directly from the device's speakers is still clear, loud and there are no issues with the sound breaking or being too slow.

IN THE BOX

Here's what's included in the box:

1x Realme Pad 2

1x USB-A to USB-C Charger Cable

1x 33W dual pin charger

1x Manual.

1x SIM Pin.

CONCLUSION

Oppo Pad Neo is a satisfying tablet for watching videos, doing work and launching various social media applications. But it is sold at a price that may be a little more expensive than I expected. The performance is not comparable to the price due to the less powerful MediaTek Helio G99 processor chip for video editing or editing at higher settings. For those of you who are interested, Oppo Pad Neo is sold at a price of RM1199 (6/128GB) for the WiFi version and RM1399 (8/128GB) for the LTE version.

PRO

Screen with intelligent color temperature adjustment

Body size that is not too big and not too small

Battery capacity 8000 mAh

CONS

Back body design that is less attractive

The price does not match the performance

No stylus support.
