Personal Computer Production Declines By Almost 14% In 2023

Another sign that the world is getting closer to returning to pre-pandemic levels is the increasing sales of personal computers (PCs and Macs). IDC's latest report says that the production of personal computers will decrease by 13.9% during 2023 compared to 2022.

Lenovo is the manufacturer with the largest market share of around 22.7% followed by HP (20.4%), Dell (15.4%), Apple (8.4%) and ASUS (6.5%). All five of the largest producers recorded production declines compared to last year. Apple was the worst affected with a decrease of 22.4% followed by ASUS (18.1%). The year 2023 continues the production trend of 2022 which decreased by 16.5% compared to 2021.

Not many users are looking for a new personal computer last year perhaps after it has already been purchased in 2020 to ensure work from home can be carried out without issue. In addition to personal computers, the production of smartphones and tablets also shrank last year as a normalization step to pre-pandemilk levels.
