Before we were introduced to the various variations of generative artificial intelligence services for photo editing, Google has long been present with many unique and interesting features to make existing photos of better quality. For example, changing the lighting, changing the focus of portrait mode or 6 years ago changing black and white photos to color.
This feature of converting black and white photos to color is still not offered by Google on Google Photos, but it is a Color Pop feature that changes color photos to have a monochrome background. Most recently, the Samsung Galaxy S24 series was seen starting to receive this feature before Google offered it. More interestingly this feature is processed without using any internet access and is able to add colors quite quickly.
You just need to have any black and white photo, open the Samsung Gallery application, then press the information icon, some AI editing suggestions will be suggested and select Colorize. The processing time is less than 10 seconds. Not only that, Samsung also offers a feature to remove the mirror reflection effect.
In my experiments, the results were quite encouraging. If the black and white image is of low resolution, there will be an option to further improve the quality. If you already received a Samsung Galaxy S24, this feature is ready to try now.
