Starlink Launches Satellite That Supports Cellular Networks

SpaceX has launched the first six Starlink satellites that can support cellular networks on smartphones. The Direct to Cell system used was launched in collaboration with the telecommunications company T Mobile in the United States.

Through Direct to Cell technology, customers no longer have to worry about their smart devices not having a cellular network, especially when they are in rural areas or when doing leisure activities. This technology also allows satellite cellular networks to be enjoyed while in the middle of the sea. The satellite telecommunications system on the iPhone currently only supports text transmission rather than internet and voice calls.

Tests will be done to see the capabilities of this technology before it is offered to the public. Besides T Mobile, other telcos that will offer Direct to Cell to their customers are KDDI (Japan), Optus (Australia), One NZ (New Zealand), and Rogers (Canada).
