Volkswagen Becomes First Manufacturer to Offer ChatGPT In-Vehicles

Chatbot with AI support ChatGPT will also be accessible directly through Volkswagen's vehicle infotainment system. At CES, Volkswagen announced that their vehicles will receive ChatGPT integration starting Q2 2025.

ChatGPT's integration is done through the IDA virtual assistant that is used in their vehicles now. Owners only need to press the IDA button on the steering wheel or use the keyword "Hello IDA" to call and all questions will be answered with the help of ChatGPT. No new applications need to be downloaded by the owner.

Vehicles that will receive the ChatGPT update are the Volkswagen ID.703, ID.4, ID.5, ID.3, Tiguan, Passat, and Golf. Volkwagen says no user data will be stored and answers given will be deleted immediately. ChatGPT will also not store information about the vehicle or the owner to ensure their privacy is preserved.
