3 Million Smart Toothbrushes Become Botnet Nests For Attacks On Websites In Switzerland

In the era of connected devices and the internet of things, it's no surprise to see a variety of everyday equipment and accessories that can connect to internet networks for a variety of purposes.

Recently, it has been reported that in Switzerland, as many as 3 million smart toothbrushes have been hacked and turned into a botnet nest. This botnet nest was then used to launch a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack on a website in the country.

Details of how the hacker group injected the malware into these toothbrushes were not reported, but the expectation is that the connection to these devices is open and insecure, making it easier for them to infect these devices.

Once made into a botnet nest, these smart toothbrushes are seen sending data packets to a business website and causing the website to become inaccessible. It is estimated that the total loss suffered by the company is in millions of Euros.
