ATMs In Japan Play Special Videos If They Detect Users Who May Be Scam Victims

Every year hundreds of millions of ringgit are lost due to various online fraud schemes. Although various efforts have been made by the government to make the public aware of scam techniques that are often used, they still happen. In Japan they also face the same problem but more seriously among the elderly. Therefore the Japanese Police with the help of the Japan Post Bank started an initiative against fraud with a video campaign.

Through artificial intelligence and cameras, the Japan Post Bank ATM will play a video warning users that they may be victims of a scam complete with loud police sirens. In Japan, one of the techniques used is to call the elderly that there is a family member in danger and need money immediately. When at the ATM the fraudster will give instructions to transfer money.

The AI on the ATM will play a warning video if it detects a customer using a phone while it is in use. This short video features celebrity Keita Tachibana telling customers to hang up the phone immediately to avoid being scammed.
