Four games that were previously exclusive to the Xbox console will also be offered to the Sony PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch consoles, confirming rumors that have been circulating since last week. Xbox CEO Phil Spencer didn't say what the first four games would be, but inside sources say it's likely to be Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment, Sea of Thieves and Grounded.
These four games are seen as a litmus test of whether offering Xbox-exclusive games to rival consoles is a good decision. Analysts see that if there is a response, more Xbox games will be offered in the future.
Also confirmed is that Microsoft will continue to offer Xbox consoles in the near future. There are no plans at this time to stop production as Xbox die-hards feared. Spencer also confirmed there are no plans to offer Starfield and Indiana Jones to the PS5 at this time. But as we said above, if the response is overwhelming this will definitely change.
The Xbox has already been defeated by the PlayStation 5 in this generation's console war. Although PS5 is the champion, sales of this console did not reach the target set by Sony last quarter. Sony itself admits that the PS5 has entered the final phase of its life cycle after three years on the market. Many feel we are now seeing the last era of physical console production with the industry seeing cloud streaming offerings as the future of gaming.
Sony, Steam, Microsoft and NVDIA all have video game streaming infrastructure at this time. It's just waiting for gamers to fully step into the digital world.
