Google announced they have joined the Coalition for Original Content and Authenticity (C2PA) which facilitates the detection of fake images online to combat the spread of inaccurate information. With Google's participation, C2PA is now even stronger after being supported by Adobe, Microsoft, Sony, Meta, BBC, ARM, Intel, TruPic and Twitter.
The first C2PA standard was announced in January 2020 as the first to be standardized by industry players. Any changes to the original digital content will be traceable using C2PA in the future. With digital software that can change faces and voices in video becoming more powerful, the authenticity of digital content online is necessary. Especially in the age of AI that can generate realistic fake images in just a few seconds.
Yesterday Meta just announced that it will display special labels in AI-generated content on Instagram, Facebook and Threads. Google last year announced the SynthID system to label AI-generated images and label AI images in Google Images search results.
