The Make in India initiative managed to get the support of another major device manufacturer in the world with Google announcing they would manufacture the Pixel 8 in the country last year. Devices manufactured in India will be marketed to India as well as the global market. Today according to a Nikkei Asia report, production of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will both begin in India as early as Q2 2024.
Previously all Pixel devices were manufactured in China and Vietnam. Earlier Google was expected to only release the Pixel 8 in India. Pixel 8 Pro will be manufactured first in north India and later Pixel 8 will be manufactured in south India. Google's manufacturing partner is still a mystery but previously Foxconn and Dixon Technologies were believed to be the two to be chosen.
Since the Make in India program was introduced, India has become one of the hubs of device production by Apple, and Samsung. Through various incentives by the government, India wants to become one of the world's high-tech manufacturing hubs while at the same time increasing the number of skilled workers among its citizens.
