Google temporarily disabled the feature of generating human images using Gemini following complaints from users. Among the issues raised is that the generated image does not correspond to history and allegedly touches on racial issues. Based on the sharing shared on social media, Gemini generates an image of the Viking race but with black skin that is far from the real reality.
Gemini can still generate images other than humans. Google is currently making changes to Gemini to resolve this issue. They also did not share when the image generating feature will return.
Since the beginning of the introduction of generative AI that generates images, various issues regarding its use have arisen. In Malaysia, the action of government agencies using it to produce pictures and videos in conjunction with Chinese New Year received great criticism from creative arts activists. This was not helped by Tengku Zafrul who seemed to belittle the comments left by creative arts activists.
At the same time yesterday an open letter urging world governments to control the use of generative AI that could have a negative impact on society was signed by hundreds of academics, activists and experts.
