Indonesia Now Needs Digital Platforms Like Google And Facebook To Pay News Publishers For Content

The Indonesian government has now passed new legislation, which requires digital platforms such as Google, Facebook and others to pay news publishers to use content. Indonesia states that this move will standardize the media industry as well as giant technology companies.

This legislation will take up to 6 months before it is fully enforced.

Google in Indonesia stated that they will evaluate the relevant legislation before sharing further. Facebook has not released any comments regarding this implementation for the time being.

Previously, there were some technology companies that did not like such legislation, and chose to remove news-related features from their offerings in some countries that enforced such legislation. It is not known whether Google and Facebook will agree to pay in Indonesia, or vice versa.
