The news just yesterday was that hacker group R00TK1t claimed they had successfully hacked the 27TB LPPKN and PADU database. If the government does not issue an official statement that user data has been hacked, they will leak this information to the web arena. Until now, LPPKN and SKMM have not issued any official statements regarding the allegations of R00Tk1T. Only PADU denied reports of their database being breached.
However, the fact is that hacker attacks in Malaysia are a daily reality. Kasperky today released data that in Malaysia there will be 26,854,304 cyber attacks through the web throughout 2023. This is equivalent to 74,000 attacks every day or 1 attack every 0.8 seconds. At the same time Kaspersky detected and broke 22,000,000 malware infection attempts during 2023 or the equivalent of 60,000 every day.
Although cyber attacks on the web decreased last year compared to more than 37 million in 2022, the sophistication and resources of attacks are increasing. Overall the number of attacks through the web decreased year after year compared to over 61 million in 2021.
