The Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzil now shared that Ookla has now awarded Malaysia the first place position, for the 5G Consistency Score at the global level. Malaysia's score was 97.27%, ahead of North Macedonia at 94.06% and the United Arab Emirates at 93.88%.
This score shows that local users receive constant or consistent access and use of the 5G network all the time, without significant changes. Ookla takes this score into account when users perform speed checks using Speedtest, and has a minimum download speed of 25Mbps, as well as an upload speed of 3Mbps.
Ookla itself states that it is more challenging to develop a consistent network across all locations in a country – than developing a network to achieve high speed rates.
This latest score is based on the three months ending December 2023. With the government opening up access to 5G at no extra charge recently, let's all look forward to developments in terms of scores in the next quarter.
