Maxis: R00TK1T Hack Does Not Affect Their Internal Systems

Last month, it was reported that hacker group R00TK1T issued a warning that they had hacked into the systems of telecommunication services developer Aminia Sdn Bhd, showing several screenshots of the company's admin login page and back-end systems.

A recent report from LowYat.net says that the same hacker group has hacked Maxis' database as well, showing screenshots for the physical model numbers of Kaon AR2140 and Kaon AR1344E WiFi router products used by Maxis Home and Business Fiber businesses as well as Astro Broadband.

Apart from the data on these WiFi router products, it is not known what other data has been stolen by this hacker group R00TK1T. But based on their threats, it wouldn't be a surprise if they managed to get hold of the Maxis business's customer data.

Update: Maxis just issued a statement and said that their internal systems were not hacked.

However, they have discovered that there is a data vulnerability through one of their third-party vendors, and suspect that the data leakage issue claimed by R00TK1T may be present through this vulnerability. Maxis did not name the company, but is reportedly working to fix the vulnerability to ensure this issue does not recur.
