Microsoft today made a surprise announcement that it will invest in Mistral by taking a small stake in the artificial intelligence company. This at once made Microsoft diversify its investments in artificial intelligence development firms, other than OpenAI.
What's interesting about Mistral is that it developed its language model in an open source manner – at the same time allowing the public to know various information related to it – unlike OpenAI.
Mistral was previously valued at around €2bn at the end of 2023. It is not known what value Microsoft does. This collaboration will also make it easier for developers using Azure cloud computing to use models developed by Mistral.
