The surprising news about Xbox yesterday is that Microsoft is rumored to be offering some of their exclusive games to the Sony PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch consoles. Games like Hi-Fi Rush, Starfield, Gears of War and Indiana Jones are rumored to be offered to other consoles months after they arrive on Xbox. Microsoft has not issued a statement denying these rumors.
This morning Phil Spencer, head of Xbox Business at Microsoft sent out a tweet saying the future and direction of Xbox will be announced at an event next week. More detailed information will only be shared at this event. Spector did not directly deny yesterday's rumors which further strengthened the rumor that what was leaked was true.
Last quarter, the video game business was the third largest contributor to Microsoft as it overtook Windows. If the rumor turns out to be true, we feel it is a positive development for gamers because they no longer need to buy an Xbox to enjoy their exclusive games. In fact, since its launch more than 20 years ago, Xbox has never been officially offered in Malaysia.
