OpenSignal – Malaysia's Most Unreliable Cellular Service

It's been more than a year since we entered the 5G era. Although the introduction of 5G in Malaysia has been delayed by almost two years, it has now covered 80% of the population. But does this mean that the majority of cellular device customers in Malaysia enjoy satisfactory service? According to a study conducted by OpenSignal, cellular service in Malaysia is the least customers can expect.

The study was conducted by taking the feedback of 55,000 respondents from 38 countries. Malaysia is ranked 31st which makes our country among the lowest with a score of 790 out of 1000.

Denmark tops the list with 934 points followed by Japan (914), South Korea (913), France (906) and Slovakia (904). The Southeast Asian country with the most reliable cellular network is Singapore in 15th place with a score of 867. Our country is also behind Thailand (ranked 24th) and Indonesia (ranked 26th) with only the Philippines (ranked 32nd) below.

Although OpenSignal's tests only involved a small sample, anecdotally we noticed cellular networks in Malaysia getting worse after the introduction of 5G. In some situations we get only 3 bars on the phone and slow internet is the daily norm.
