Poco X6 5G Review – An Affordable Dolby Atmos And Vision Device

Poco comes with two types of device options, the Poco X6 Pro 5G and the Poco X6 5G through the X-series this year. As usual, Poco always comes up with attractive price offers compared to other competitors in its class. But does the price offered match the performance and quality provided? The question may be answered through this review article where I will share about the experience of using it for a few days.

SCREEN

6.67" AMOLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate with Gorilla Glass Victus protection along with Dolby Vision display support provides a good and satisfying user experience. One of the advantages of this Poco X6 5G screen is its very thin bezel and Poco in their advertisement calls it 'ultra-thin' with the thickness of the left and right bezels being only 1.3mm thick while the bezel on the bottom is 2.27mm which makes the screen display visible full and more comprehensive. At the top of the screen there is a small hole for the front camera.

A CrystalRes display is also built in which makes the visual quality comparable to WQHD+ which Xiaomi promises is capable of producing a clearer image display than FHD+. So after using it for a few days, all I can say is that the experience of watching Netflix and Youtube videos on the device is really exciting. Although the built-in display quality is quite excellent, the energy consumption rate by the device can still be maintained well. The screen also has a peak brightness level of up to 1800 nits which is very bright and clear even when used in areas exposed to sunlight.

The included Dolby Vision feature makes the screen of this device still capable of providing a quality viewing experience most of the time throughout the test period. The 120Hz refresh rate always ensures that the scrolling of the screen looks smooth and for several days of use I have never experienced any problems with timing despite running several applications simultaneously and switching between uses. The touch on the screen is also very responsive which at the same time gives the experience of playing the game much smoother and fun.

BIOMETRIC

Fingerprint detection is placed at the bottom of the screen and honestly I can say the scan is very fast where it can detect the fingerprint instantly. Not only that, the facial scanner also acts to unlock quickly enough as soon as the screen display is turned on in front of the face. There is no issue about the biometric system built into this Xiaomi Poco X6 5G. In fact, in one instance I tried to unlock the device using a wet finger and it still detected fine.

DESIGN

If I had to describe the body design of this device with just one word, then I would say that the body design of the Xiaomi Poco X6 is 'classic'. Maybe because the device I tested is Black in color which indirectly makes the body of the device look classic and stylish with the back body made of glass panels with flat sides. However, with the 'glossy' construction on the back panel, the body of the device can easily look dirty with fingerprints. Xiaomi also offers this device in two more color options, namely Blue and White, each of which has its own cosmetic value.

On the right side of his body there is a power button and a volume adjustment button that are easy to reach and pleasant to press. The button construction feels solid and quality. At the top there is a hole for the 3.5mm audio jack while at the bottom there is a built-in USB-C charging hole and also a speaker.

The back body of the device is made of a shiny glass panel and houses 3 camera bumps, one of which is small for the macro camera lens, LED, as well as POCO branding and 64MP OIS. As a complement to the device with this classic build, the IP54 waterproof feature is also included.

USE AND SOFTWARE

The operating system that acts as the driver of the internal system of this device is MIUI 14 where it displays a neat interface display and there are no problems with annoying ads or too many fat and silly applications that are already installed. All the apps I want can be downloaded without any problems and run fine.

The memory size of the device that I used for the entire test period was 12GB of RAM along with 512GB of storage. The available memory size is more than enough to load thousands of photos and videos and dozens of applications can be downloaded from the Play Store without having to deal with the issue of space and insufficient memory size. The Extended RAM feature can also be expanded up to 12GB RAM where there is a total of 24GB RAM available.

BENCH MARK

The performance and capabilities of the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chip built as a complement to this device can also be seen and evaluated using Antutu 3D Benchmark, Geekbench 6 and WildLife Extreme benchmark tests. Here are the benchmark test results shown.

Antutu 3D Benchmark

Xiaomi Poco X6 5G – 603,046

Oppo Reno 11 5G – 501,800

realme 11 Pro+ – 562,446

Honor X9b – 464,060

Geekbench 6

Xiaomi Poco X6 5G – 1031/2874

Oppo Reno 11 5G – 797/2254

realme 11 Pro+ – 946/2382

Honor X9b – 926/2786

WildLife

Xiaomi Poco X6 5G – 2989

Oppo Reno 11 5G – 2278

realme 11 Pro+ – cannot be tested

Honor X9b – 2386

During the period of use I have played the first several times on the device. Among the games played are Call Of Duty and Asphalt 9. The experience of playing games is very enjoyable because even with the highest resolution settings, games can still run smoothly without any lag issues. The body of the device also does not feel hot even after 2 times I played the first in a row. Due to the smoothness of the display during the first play I was almost complacent playing it over and over again without getting tired.

CAMERA

The main camera consists of a 64MP wide-angle lens, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2MP macro for the macro camera built into the device, which provides average and simply satisfactory image quality. This is because pictures in bright areas give a picture that is not sharp and the color is slightly faded. Even when zoomed in, the softness of the picture is more clearly visible. But in terms of evidence I feel there is no problem in many situations.

The results of shots at night are less satisfactory with the results of images that are too soft, the lighting is relatively weak and the noise effect is too noticeable. Even by using the night mode setting, the image results don't seem to show any significant difference.

Even the color description is faded and I feel that such a picture should go through a simple editing process before uploading it to social media. This is because the availability of pictures to continue to be shown on social media without a simple editing process appears to be of poor quality.

No night mode setting

Night mode setting is on

The 16MP front camera I feel can work well with still bright photos and shows the subject clearly even in dim lighting. Although it looks quite soft with a little noise, it can still be classified as a good selfie result. It's just that the color fading issue on the subject and background also happens on the front camera.

BATTERY

Poco X6 5G comes with a battery capacity of 5100mAh along with 67W turbo charging that can last all day for normal usage rates such as browsing social media, listening to music, watching videos and so on. Charging from 0% to 100% takes around 50 minutes to full.

However, the battery's ability to last all day depends on how it is used. The period of time throughout the day I mean is more than 14 hours where it lasts from morning to night which is around 8 am to 10 pm.

If the usage pattern is extreme along with certain settings that require the use of a lot of battery then the device will definitely not be able to last a day without charging. But with the help of the 67W turbo charging, this issue can still be forgiven.

AUDIO

Not only is the Doby Vision feature available, but the Dolby Atmos feature is also included as a complement to the device's speaker where it provides the experience of listening to content directly from the speaker with loud audio. The audio volume that is heard is clear even when it is opened at the highest level of the audio adjuster.

This feature simultaneously provides a fun experience watching videos and listening to music. But in some situations I prefer wearing wireless earphones to listen to content from the device. The device also still has a 3.5mm jack which is now becoming extinct.

1x 67W charger

CONCLUSION

Overall, the Poco X6 5G is a device with an affordable price and provides an offering in terms of satisfactory performance alone.
