Last week Prime Video started offering a basic plan with ad support. On this most affordable plan, ads will be inserted between the content watched. It was first offered to US users before being expanded to other markets that have Amazon's advertising support.
According to a Forbes report, one drawback of this new plan is that it no longer supports Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. By default video will play at HDR10+ settings only and audio will be stereo only for clients. Amazon confirmed this was intentional and not a system error. While announcing the new ad-supported plan, they didn't say these two features would be barred to users.
For customers in Malaysia, there is no need to worry about this latest development in the near future because Prime Video does not offer advertising in the local market. Only customers in the US, UK, Germany, Canada, France, Italy, Spain, Mexico and Australia will be affected.
