Cancer is the fourth leading cause of death in Malaysia behind heart disease, lung disease and cardiovascular disease. One ray of light behind the cloudy clouds of the Covid-19 pandemic is that there are now many studies trying to produce a vaccine for cancer. Yesterday President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia is close to producing a vaccine against cancer.
He did not elaborate on what cancers this vaccine can fight against and which companies are involved in its production. Two years ago Dr Ugur Sahin and Dr Ozlem Tureci, the two scientists who created the Comirnaty vaccine through their company BioNTech believe that a vaccine for cancer will become a reality before 2030.
Amazon, Moderna and BioNTech are developing their own cancer vaccines. Some clinical trials on humans have also started. How effective the vaccine developed by Russia will only be known if the test results are published in an international medical journal.
