While we are busy celebrating the Chinese New Year, Samsung Chairman Lee Jae-yong has made a secret visit to Malaysia. Lee arrived in Malaysia last Friday to visit the Samsung SDI battery factory located in Seremban. This aims to see the development of the battery factory which received an injection of 1.7 trillion won (~RM.1 billion) in 2022 in producing the new PRiMX 21700 battery.
In addition, according to the Korea Herald report, Lee held a meeting with the staff of Samsung Electronics, Samsung C&T and Samsung Engineering to boost morale due to the company's declining earnings over the past few years.
A visit to Samsung's largest store in Southeast Asia was also done by him to see the public's response to Samsung's latest products. Malaysia is one of Samsung's most important smartphone markets in the world.
This is Lee's first trip outside of South Korea this year, weeks after he was found not guilty in a case involving improper stock purchases. His presence was done secretly because he did not meet with the national leadership and local media, unlike TM Roh last year.
