Automattic, the company behind Tumblr and WordPress.com is now reportedly in talks with several companies, including OpenAI and MidJourney – to offer user content in an effort to train artificial intelligence models.
As many are aware, text and image content play a major role today in helping to train an artificial intelligence model. This has led various artificial intelligence companies to license content from multiple publishers.
Previously, we already heard that Reddit has licensed their data content to Google in training Google's artificial intelligence model.
Tumblr and WordPress.com are now also informing users that they will license content to developers of artificial intelligence models. Both of these platforms will offer content designated as open for the purposes of this exercise. At the same time, both platforms now provide the option to "Opt-Out" or leave the training - making it easier for users to control whether their content is used for training purposes or otherwise.
With this move as well, it is not impossible that we see more companies also take the same step in licensing their respective content.
