The Line is one of several ultra mega construction projects planned in NEOM, Saudi Arabia. It will be the longest building in the world around 170 kilometers that can house 9 million people. When The Line was announced many felt it was just a concept drawing and could not be built. But NEOM has shared a new official video showing construction in full swing.
The foundation of the building is being excavated before The Line building can be built. The digging process is done 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with 1 million cubic meters of soil excavated every week. A perfect foundation is necessary to accommodate a building as high as 500 meters and as wide as 150 meters. The first phase of The Line is expected to be completed in 2030. The date when it will be fully completed has not yet been announced.
The concept of The Line is to create a city in a building that does not require its inhabitants to own a vehicle. Basic needs can be accessed by a 15-minute walk with The Line's end-to-end journey being done by high-speed train.
