Chat Lock is a function that allows users to lock certain chat rooms using a password and prevent them from being accessed by others. It was announced in May last year and is only available through an app on smartphones so far.
However, according to a new partnership, the same feature could potentially be offered on the web version as well, which should be available in a future update. A shared screenshot shows the new WhatsApp Web interface with Chat Lock feature. It's placed in a new tab on the left side panel, along with a number of other functions that include status/community updates, archived chats, a settings section and more.
Users are also presented with a settings function at the bottom, which in a nutshell makes the new interface look neater and more user-friendly. At the moment it is still in the development stage, and may be given improvements before being announced in the full version.
