Xiaomi x Leica Optical Institute Opened For Mobile Device Imaging Technology Innovation




Before Xiaomi teamed up with Leica, they had been trying to innovate on smartphone photography for a long time. This Chinese manufacturer also opened Xiaomi Studio as a digital content creation studio as well as Xiaomi Imagery which is a platform for users to join photography classes and share the results that have been recorded. The latest Xiaomi x Leica Optical Institute has been opened.



The institute was opened to develop new technologies for imaging mobile devices. They aim to come up with imaging innovations such as ultra-precisely designed optical lenses in compact sizes, achieve ideal performance in photographic computing, set stricter standards for lens selection, and study and apply optoelectronic technology.



The Xiaomi 14 Ultra is said to be the benchmark for the Xiaomi x Leica Optical Institute. The device is said to bring practical innovation for unparalleled mobile device imaging performance. Three factories will also be developed in Beijing for Camera Hardware, Imaging and Objective and Subjective Evaluation of Image Quality. The factories are on an area of 2644m² and will be among the largest automated photography laboratories.



Xiaomi x Leica Optical Institute includes over 200 experts. Among those involved are Leica Designers of the Noctilux and APO series; Peter Karbe as Optical Expert, Senior Vice President of Xiaomi Group and President of Xiaomi Phone Division; Zeng Xuezong will be the director, Technical Software Team Leader and Xiaomi Camera Division Manager; Yi Yan and Wang Xuanran will be Deputy Leaders.






The Xiaomi 14 Ultra will be launched together with the Xiaomi 14 for the global market at the MWC Barcelona 2024 event on February 25.
