Google has started testing Android 15 before it is officially released this summer. From this trial, a number of new features that will be present in Android 15 began to be revealed.
Currently Android 15 is entering the Developer Preview 2 phase, so it is not yet available to users. After that, this operating system will enter the beta phase and will be accessible to Pixel cellphone users who are registered as beta testers.
Through this latest developer preview, Android 15 is known to have an iPhone-style satellite connection feature. This update displays notifications and indicators in the status bar that will appear when the user is connected to a satellite connection.
The 'NonTerrestrialNetwork' API will alert the application that its connection is limited when connected to a satellite. Google says Android 15 will allow RCS apps to send and receive messages using satellite connections.
Apart from that, Google will also introduce a security feature, namely screen recording detection. This feature will notify users if their activities are recorded by suspicious applications.
NFC capabilities have also been enhanced to support smoother one-tap contactless payments. Multi-language audio recognition support first introduced in Android 14 is also improved.
Users of folding screen phones such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip are also being noticed by Google. Android 15 will make the cover screen on small flip screen phones more useful, as quoted from The Verge, Sunday (24/3/2024).
Android 15 will also support the new loudness standard CTA-2075 which will help Android users avoid the hassle of adjusting inconsistent volume when switching content.
Finally, Google is also bringing substantial improvements to the app's PDF features, including adding support for password-protected files, annotations, form editing, word search, and select by copy.
The Developer Preview phase will continue until the end of March this year. After that, Android 15 will enter the beta phase from April to July, followed by the release of the stable version between August or September.
