This year is an important year for AWS in Malaysia because the AWS Region in Malaysia will start operating in line with their announcement last year to invest a total of RM 25.5 billion by 2037, and this is reinforced by the opening of their office in Kuala Lumpur last year.
This AWS Region is a physical data server center that will be located in a specific location, and also enables fast data transactions because it has a low latency rate, and this provides various benefits to customers and AWS partners including Petronas, Pos Malaysia, Bank Islam , Grab, and many more.
In the session with the media, AWS also shared which of the 3 Availability Zones to activate the AWS Region in Malaysia, with each of them having a distance of around 100km from each other via fiber, and also being able to support each other in the event of any untoward incident.
With the AWS Region in Malaysia, it can also help some local companies' zero carbon initiatives. AWS also cooperates with Petronas and Gentari in intensifying green technology, even Gentari also offers their green energy for Amazon India in their transport sector to reduce their carbon emissions.
And AWS itself has intensified activities involving local developers and since the existence of their 32,000 square foot office in Kuala Lumpur, many events have been held with local developers. Even FathomX, one of the startups that has developed FxMammo, which is AI powered by AWS to improve Mammography screening results (has collaborated with UiTM and UM in their study involving various research centers to study the effectiveness of FxMammo in 8 countries around Asia Pacific.
With the development of cooperation and initiatives from AWS for the local technology world, it can certainly intensify the development of technology in the country. Stay tuned for more updates from them.
