A few years ago the United States Army began using the Smart Shooter optical system that does the calculations for the infantry to make accurate shots. It's like an aimbot system but used in the real world. Now this Israeli-designed Smart Shooter system is also being used by members of the British paratroopers.
The SMASH X4 optical system used is the latest version produced by Smart Shooter. The United Kingdom Ministry of Defense awarded a contract worth £4.6 million (~RM27 million) to purchase 225 Smash X4 units fitted to the L85A3 rifle. The contract also has a clause to supply the SMASH X4 for use by members of the UK's Royal Navy and Royal Air Force.
Each SMASH X4 is equipped with a computer that takes into account target distance, air pressure, temperature and wind direction to provide recommendations on where the weapon should be aimed for accurate shooting. The UK military purchased this optical system specifically for use in shooting drones.
The Ukraine-Russia conflict shows that drones are the new enemy for infantrymen. Because of their small size, drones are very difficult to shoot down. With a computerized optical system, the task of shooting drones is expected to be simplified.
