Communications Minister, Fahmi Fadzil has now stated that he has proposed for Starlink to open an office in Malaysia. As many are aware, Starlink has previously been offered in Malaysia, allowing local users to subscribe and enjoy internet access that is directly transmitted via satellite.
In addition to proposing the opening of the office, the Minister also discussed the "Direct-To-Cell" support that will be introduced by Starlink. It was discussed that Starlink should work with local telecommunication providers for the new feature.
"Direct-To-Cell" will offer the ability to access cellular services via satellite beam. The interesting thing about this feature is that users can use existing devices, and do not need any additional devices.
For now, all of this is at the initial discussion and proposal stage. It is not yet known what Starlink's response will be to the matter raised.
