It's been more than four years since the Covid-19 epidemic hit the world and it's actually still not over even though people are trying to forget it. Among the confirmed impacts of Covid-19 is reducing the brain's cognitive ability, damaging the cardiovascular system and organ damage. As a person who has been infected with Covid twice, one impact that I am aware of is becoming more forgetful or the English term used is brain fog.
It causes patients to forget what they want to do, say and simple information that should be able to be remembered seems to be erased from the mind. A study from Imperial College London has now found that the long-term impact of Covid can cause IQ to drop by up to six points.
Data collected through the REACT (Real-Time Assessment of Community Transmission) study involved more than 112,000 Covid patients in the United Kingdom who reported themselves showing symptoms of Covid for more than 12 weeks after infection. When cognitive tests were performed, their IQ was found to be lower than normal compared to those who had never had the infection.
Decreased cognitive abilities are detected in relation to memory, spatial planning and verbal reasoning. The good news in this test is that this forgetful impact will go away with the most serious cases only lasting up to a year.
