DeepMind Founder Appointed Microsoft AI CEO

Mustafa Suleyman who is the co-founder of DeepMind has been appointed as the CEO of Microsoft AI. The announcement was made by Microsoft yesterday with Suleyman reporting directly to Satya Nadella. Suleyman will be responsible for developing AI features used in products such as Copilot, Bing and Edge.

Suleyman founded DeepMind with Demis Hassabis and Shane Legg in 2010. The company was later acquired by Google in 2014. He left DeepMind in 2022 to launch the AI startup Inflection. Inflection AI received a large investment from Microsoft last year and now it looks like the reins have been absorbed directly into the company.

In addition to Suleyman, Microsoft also announced that Inflection AI's chief scientist, Karén Simonyan, now holds the position of chief scientist at Microsoft AI. He was involved in several large projects such as AlphaZero while still with DeepMind.
