EU Fines Apple RM9.2 Billion - For Abuse of App Store Control

The European Union (EU) today fined Apple 1.8 billion Euros, which is around RM9.2 billion, due to abuse of power for the distribution of music streaming applications.

The EU said Apple had used its iOS platform development powers under them, preventing app developers from announcing lower price offers for out-of-app subscriptions. Previously, the EU had opened an investigation against Apple after a complaint by Spotify in 2019.

Apple through a press release, stated they will appeal this decision. Apple also emphasized that the EU has found no evidence that this leads to a burden on consumers.
