Google Makes U-Turn, Pixel 8 Now Supports Gemini Nano

It was very strange when a few weeks ago Google announced that the Pixel 8 does not support Gemini Nano for AI processing from within the device. Google's reason is that device specifications limit the language model built on AICore applications running on these devices. After weeks of users criticizing and mocking Google, the Pixel 8 has recently been confirmed to support Gemini Nano.

It makes no sense for the Pixel 8 not to be supported as other devices like the Samsung Galaxy S24 which also has 8GB of RAM and not powerful models like the S24+ or S24 Ultra support the Gemini Nano. Gemini Nano allows the Gboard Smart Reply feature or audio-to-text transcripts from the Recorder app to be processed from within the device instead of using the Internet.

Gemini Nano will arrive to the Pixel 8 via the AICore app in the next Pixel Feature Drop update. The Pixel 8 is still not on sale in Malaysia, but if you want a flagship device with AI features at an affordable price – the Samsung Galaxy S23 has just received the One UI 6.1 update with Galaxy AI.
