If you are a user of Google Pixel 8 Pro or any Samsung Galaxy S24 series, you will notice in the Play Store a new application listed which is Android AICore. Android AICore is a system application for Gemini Nano running on Android devices. Gemini Nano is to process the artificial intelligence system from within the device.
Recently, Google confirmed that Pixel 8 will not support Gemini Nano. This means features like Gboard Smart Reply or audio-to-text transcripts from the Recorder app will be processed in the cloud and not from within the device. Google's reason is, the Pixel 8 does not have adequate specifications for the Gemini Nano.
What are the specifications? Only memory and processing chips are important to run AI. If the memory of the Pixel 8 is 8GB RAM, the S24 is also the same but still supports Gemini Nano. Google also said more other Android devices will also receive the Gemini Nano. What are these other device requirements? Does memory need 12GB RAM or above? Is 8GB memory limited to Samsung only?
