The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque has introduced a new initiative in an effort to facilitate the process of performing the hajj circumambulation. Through this, electric vehicles (EVs) in the form of golf carts began to be prepared specifically to help the elderly, infirm and disabled pilgrims perform worship in the Holy Land. During this time, invalid pilgrims were carried on stretchers or pushed using wheelchairs by assistants.
It is understood that this EV has been introduced since the beginning of Ramadan and operates on the roof of the Grand Mosque. The purchase of tickets can be made through ticket sales points in the same area. Next, pilgrims can access it through the entrance of the Ajyad Stairs elevator, the gate of the King Abdulaziz elevator, and the Umrah gate elevator.
A total of 50 vehicles are available that can carry 10 passengers for each trip. Its operating hours are open for 12 hours starting from 4pm to 4am every day with a fee of SR25 (~RM31.50). The charges mentioned above are inclusive of value added tax for each person.
