TikTok is a social media platform that has changed the world. They popularized vertical video sharing and have spawned many celebrities and entrepreneurs. For three consecutive years, TikTok has beaten Instagram in the number of app downloads. But in 2023, for the first time Instagram managed to beat TikTok.
According to Sensor Tower, in 2023 Instagram will receive 768 million total app downloads. It is 20% higher than in 2022. TikTok last year only received 733 million total downloads which is 4% compared to the previous year.
This is not surprising because Instagram has long been the most popular photo sharing application. It later became more popular after Meta introduced Reels, a TikTok-like feature of vertical videos. Instagram also offers more or less the same features and functionality and also pays qualified content creators.
